Chuck Lopez moved to Metuchen in 2014 with his wife, Lauren, and their children, Elie and Jonah. His connection to the borough, however, began much earlier during his high school and college years, when he worked as a lifeguard at the Metuchen municipal pool, forming early ties to the community he would later call home.
Chuck is a band director in the Edison Public Schools, where he has served for 24 years. In addition to his work in music education, he remains an active performing musician and plays saxophone in the Metuchen-based cover band The Commuters.
As a member of the borough’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Committee, Chuck actively contributes to local preparedness and coordination efforts. Chuck is a member of the Auxiliary Communications Bureau with the Middlesex County OEM, supporting county-level auxiliary emergency communications and organization efforts. He also serves with the Dunellen OEM as a member of the OEM staff and Coordinator of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Chuck brings over three decades of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), having served in multiple municipalities and currently serving as a Special Member with Metuchen EMS.
Chuck is a co-founder and board member of the Janice Lopez Ovarian Cancer Foundation, supporting awareness, education, and outreach related to ovarian cancer. He is active in Scouting as a BSA Troop 14 Committee Member and Merit Badge Counselor and is a member of Temple Emanu-El in Edison, New Jersey. His community involvement also includes many years of coaching youth baseball, softball, and field hockey, three years of service with the Metuchen Arts Council, and participation on the Mayor’s Equity Commission in 2020.
Chuck holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Montclair State University and has completed extensive training through FEMA and other emergency management programs. Across his professional and volunteer roles, he remains committed to public service, education, and building strong, resilient communities.
